Michael Voigt To Defend National Shooting Title
Chino resident
will face the nation's best shooters in Illinois.
SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. –
Michael Voigt of Chino, CA is the reigning 3-Gun National Champion in the
Open division, but that could all change when he faces over 200 of the
nation's best shooters in Barry, Illinois, at the 2003 United States
Practical Shooting Association's (USPSA) 2003 3-Gun Nationals June 28-July
1. Michael has six previous National Championships in 3 Gun and is
President/CEO of the USPSA organization.
"There
are a lot of top shooters looking to replace me as champion," says
Voigt. "I can't take anything for granted. Anyone wanting this title will
need to come to the match ready to put in a great score”.
Practical
shooting is the most dynamic and fast-paced of the shooting sports. Often
referred to as "run and gun," competitors go from a complete
stand still to running full-tilt at the sound of a buzzer. This year the
physical toll of this kind of event will be compounded by the notoriously
oppressive Illinois summer heat at PASA
Park.
The 2003 3-Gun
Nationals pits competitors against 19 stages, or courses of fire, each with
a different and complicated target presentation. Shooters must negotiate
obstacles, reload, change positions, and shoot their targets as fast as
possible in order to generate a points-per-second score. If they miss, or
shoot inaccurately, points are deducted, lowering that precious
points-per-second score.
